Social action: at work!
On the following document I’m going to give people an update on my social action project "be the change" In the last weeks there has been a very good reception of the project with almost all students coming to class on time and with great attitude.
Whenever I see them I allways note a worried/ sad face on them so I ask them: Why... so..... serious? and then I thing for myself: we should do something to change this, so... let's put on a smile on that face!
The mothers have dropped that uncomfortable attitude that they use to have and have started to cooperate with us and even to participate in the activities with the children, but a negative thing I can said about them is that they usually beat up their children for any reason and have little or no education at all because they can't control their voice tone (they scream all the time) for any reason.
On the other hand, the attitude towards the cleaning ladies in my condo hasn’t change that much, they still don't want the students to come up to the condo, even if it’s to my apartment and has a good porpoise.
My neighbors have started calling names to the student's and usually refer to them as "that people" which is something ignorant that they do to try to hurt them.
Even though we have had a few issues the program is still on.
On my next post I’ll upload the month class schedule of the program.

The power of context in social responsability
I just read a few things I would like to share with you followers of the blog comunity:
The power of context teach us that we are more than just sensitive to changes in contex, we're really sensitive.
People can be prompted to commit crime influenced by his envioment.
behaviour is a function of social context, an inner state can be the result of outer circunstances in ways we dont understand.
Major external influences in our lives, certain times, places, conditions changing people's behaviour.
A social epidemic can be reversed by touching the smallest details of the immediate envioment.
The Burny gunn incident in the N.y SUBWAY where he killed 4 black subjects that were giving him a hard time, making him a national hero at the time because of the high rate of crime was a result, a sintom of the desease of the grafity in the subway in the 80's that influenced the collapse of the system.
Solution? to clean all the trains (graffity)
took from 1984 - 1990
Very Important:
never let the car be vandalized again.never mix clean and dirty cars.
never let anyone cheat the system, make them pay the tickets.
idea:
put police and arrest people and do it in a very visible way, convince the police that it was worth it.
For example: experiment in the uni were the guards became more and more cruel, the experiment lasted 6 days instead 2 weeks.

About the project
What is your role in your project?
Well my role in this project is to gather as much children as possible in the place they live (most of them in the Mapasingue area), pick them from their home and bring them back safely after the class finished as well as do the talking to the people in my condo and to find more people interested in send us their children.
I choose this project because the cleaning ladies usually dont send they children to school and preffer having them wondering around the house where they work, but what they don't know is that by doing this they continue the cicle that their own parents usually started with them, leaving them with no choice but to work as servants with the family that recieved their own parents.
So my main porpouse is to break this vicious circle between mom-sons.
Another thing I do is to assist the children during they work at my place by helping them performing the activities.Something we have noticed is that most of the people in the condo were pretty skeptical about the project and didn't wanted any strange people to come here (they made some racial comments about them), especially if they were related to the cleaning ladies.
It’s been a really hard thing to keep everything cool and we hope everything still like this.

My "Be the change" project
I’ve started my new social project, my porpoise is to teach the basic subjects to the children (sons and daughters) of the cleaning ladies that lives in my condominium.
For now there are 4 children and they teachers are: my mother which is a educational psychologist with lots of years of experience and as her assistant my 12 year old cousin which studies in the american school of Guayaquil so she will be alphabetizing in the area near the school pretty soon.
We started a few weeks ago on Wednesday 20th by gathering these children at about 10 o'clock in the morning in my apartment's living room.
The children are brat (9yo), nestor (10yo), Omar (9yo) and Emily which is 6
On this day we introduce the teachers and they started teaching them the really basic things such as reading, the alphabet, the colors and numbers.
Eventually I will post the course's teaching program.
We make a pause about 1.30 later the class started this brake took 30 min.
After the brake we give the children some crayons and we ask them to start dawning, after about 1 hour our first class finished.
For the record this are a few things I noticed:
The children are shy, which is normal, but more than that they seem to feel uncomfortable as if they feel they don't fit in the place (they try not to touch anything or even put their hands on anything unless we tell them to do so).
Their moms wanted to pay us or to start cleaning the house even if we told them it was totally free they were uncomfortable with this idea.
The mothers were very suspicious about leaving their children in my place even if my mother, my cousin and another apartment owner were there all the time while the class lasted.
We continued with the classes for Thursday and Friday and the next week (25 - 31 may)
We ask them to come 3 days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
On this week we had only one new child that was friends with one of the cleaning lady's son, his name is Brian and he's 10.
So the class has now 5 children

The search for the truth
Our topic this week is investigation of the truth, so
why have I asked you to watch videos about diet in order to begin to explore this topic?
Because in this video we have an example of a subject that decided to stop living following his family’s beliefs, and living inside their empire to go on by himself and start searching for the truth about alimentation in America.
What relationships can you find between the videos and the reading?
In the videos we can see a struggle for uncovering the truth about the american food system, this guy explains every part of the use of animals for food: cows, chickens and pigs and what are its consequences on American’s health (heart attacks, certain cancers and diabetes, osteoporosis are caused in part by what do we eat.
Eating fast food like cheeseburgers and a milkshake rises the fat in your blood and your body, over the years the arteries get closed because all the fat that goes into them, causing heart attacks and strokes (because of the Saturated fat and cholesterol).
The damage extends on the american soil too (most of the fields are used for feeding the cattle ), Cows wastes are so big they can get into the water we drink and can cause health problems.
Other related problems its caused when farmers bring water to the desert part of the country so that the soil its able to produce food for feeding the animals using that water to irrigate the fields. A beef uses more than 5000 gallons, the natural products instead are more productive because they don’t need so much water.
The reading is about the Investigation of the truth that should be based on accurate understanding of the human nature. In the text we can see how The humans are motivated to search the truth by the thirst of knowledge that also directs his mind to seek a fuller understanding of the mysteries of its own self.
Human nature is material and spiritual, the material is shaped by the struggle for surviving and the social action is infused with the feelings of love and kindness and the unshakable belief in the unity of mankind.
So both the video and the reading show us how the understanding of the truth must be in top of our priorities and that can be reachable.
What do these relationships imply about our role as individuals in our society?
In the reading and in the videos we can clearly see how 1 person can reach its goal, in this case under covering the truth behind the American alimentation system. This means that if each person decide to help our society its possible, and can be done by just start looking for the truth real hard.
